The Obama lies on Healthcare

Here is just a partial list of the promises made by Obama thus far and the reality of what is occurring. Are these outright lies or should he not be held responsible? He is the one in control and he could guide this legislation in a different direction if he chose to do so.

The radical left-wing ideologies are guiding this legislation. It really has nothing to do with true healthcare reform. Anyone who believes these changes will save money, bring down costs and improve access and quality is naive or ignorant.

Individual Mandate: There were not a lot of actual policy fights in the 2008 Democratic Presidential primary, but one of the few major policy disagreements between then-Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and then-Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) was over the individual mandate. Clinton was for it and Obama was against it. On January 31, 2008, Obama made the case against mandates in a Los Angeles, CA, debate: “Now, under any mandate, you are going to have problems with people who don’t end up having health coverage. I think we can anticipate that there would also be people potentially who are not covered and are actually hurt if they have a mandate imposed on them.” Both the House and Senate bills now contain an individual mandate. According to the President’s own Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, under the Senate plan, 19 million Americans would pay $29 billion in taxes/fines and still receive no health care in return.

You Will Not Lose Your Doctor: On June 15, 2009, President Obama promised the American people: “No matter how we reform health care, we will keep this promise to the American people. If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period. If you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan, period. No one will take it away, no matter what.” Again, the President’s own Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services confirms that the current Senate health bill breaks this promise. Seventeen million Americans will be forced out of their existing health insurance. Worse, the CMS explains that continued Medicare cuts will encourage more doctors to stop seeing Medicare patients entirely, and the 18 million people added to Medicaid will also make it next to impossible for those already on Medicaid to find a doctor who will treat them.

No Tax Hikes for People Making Less than $250,000: On February 24, 2009, President Barack Obama promised the American people: “if your family earns less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes increased a single dime. I repeat: not one single dime.” Speaker Pelosi believes the Senate bill’s excise tax on insurance plans breaks this promise, and she is right. But it is not the only way that Obamacare shatters the President’s no-middle-class-tax-hike pledge. There are a slew of new taxes in the Senate bill, many of which will hit the middle class, including taxes on medical devices, tanning beds, insurance user fees, and brand name drugs (not to mention the individual mandate which is enforced by a tax or the employer mandate which kills jobs and punishes the poor).

Your Health Premiums Will Be $2,500 Lower: On October 15, 2008, then-Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) promised the American people: “The only thing we’re going to try to do is lower costs so that those cost savings are passed onto you. And we estimate we can cut the average family’s premium by about $2,500 per year.” According to the Congressional Budget Office, Americans in large-group employer-sponsored plans would, on average, see their premiums remain flat, while individuals who purchase insurance in the non-group market would see much higher premiums in 2016 under Obamacare than they would under current law. And many believe those estimates are optimistic. According to the Lewin Group, once fully implemented, health care spending per worker will increase for all employers who do not currently offer coverage — $316 per worker under the Senate bill and $800 increase per worker under the House bill.

Health Reform Reduces the Deficit: On September 10, 2009, President Barack Obama promised the American people: “I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits – either now or in the future. Period.” Even the President’s most ardent supporters are now admitting the Senate bill is full of budget gimmicks to make it appear Obamacare will reduce the deficit. When the true cost of Obamacare is considered, the final tab comes to $2.5 trillion with an honest accounting of Medicare reimbursement rates netting a $765 billion deficit all by itself.

Tax Payer Funded Abortion: On September 10, 2009, President Barack Obama promised the American people: “No federal dollars will be used to fund abortions.” While the House bill’s Stupak amendment language fulfills this promise, the Senate’s Nelson compromise does not. If the Senate language were to become law, it would overturn the precedent set by the Hyde Amendment, the FEHBP (Federal Employees Health Benefits Plan), Military insurance through TRICARE, and the Indian Health Service. Your taxdollars most definitely would be paying for elective abortions.

  1. The volunteer lame duck senator, Chris Dodd, from Connecticut announced this morning that Healthcare Reform is hanging on by a thread today. I hope that is true and not another ploy for support. At any rate, I received an email from the Grassfire Nation that outlined six ways that Healthcare Reform could fail. It would be fitting if it did given all of the lies and false promises of the LEFT. Here are the six ways that Grassfire says the reform could fail:
    #6--Union blues
The left is nearly as angry as the Right, calling the Reid bill a bailout for the insurance industry. The unions are upset about the tax on their so-called "Cadillac" health care plans and want that removed. The Left has held the coalition together with a "live together, die alone" motto, but politics changes with the wind. And the Left knows the winds are changing. I list this first because it is the least likely. But it is still possible.

#5--One Democrat Senator can't make it to the floor to vote.
Despite the backroom deals and dirty tricks, as we understand it there will be one more final cloture vote in the Senate.
Rules require 60 votes to invoke cloture. If one Democrat Senator can't make it to the floor, for any reason (health, accident, death etc.) they don't have 60 votes.

    #4--The Cornhusker Kickback kicks back.
Arnold Schwarzenegger told California's members of Congress to vote NO unless their state also gets the Cornhusker Kickback. Now Dems are scrambling to give every state a kickback. The more talk about kickbacks and the more uncomfortable everyone is with this entire fiasco.

    #3--Abortion issue divides Democrats.
Rep. Bart Stupak has already voiced his opposition to Nelson's compromise and says he has the votes to stop any abortion- funding ObamaCare bill. An equal number of House Democrats have vowed to torpedo any final bill that includes Stupak's amendment. One group must blink for ObamaCare to pass.

#2--Three House Democrats change their votes.
Abortion is just one of the issues dividing Democrats. Rep.
Cantor has identified 34 House Democrats who are facing a very difficult vote based on three issues: abortion, Medicare Advantage, and state budget crises. It is now an election year.
The pressure is building. If three members feel enough heat to switch their votes, ObamaCare fails.

    #1--The Massachusetts Miracle.
The Bay State's special election next week to fill the late Sen. Kennedy's seat is now a tossup in some polls, and Republican candidate Scott Brown has pledged to be the 41st vote to block ObamaCare. If Brown is seated before the final ObamaCare vote, game over. There is already talk that if Brown wins, Democrats will stall his election certification in order to keep him from casting the deciding vote.

The special election is next Tuesday (1/19), before any final votes will be cast on ObamaCare. If a Republican takes Teddy Kennedy's seat, I say all bets are off. Democrats from coast-to-coast will suddenly get a lot more nervous about voting for ObamaCare. Unlike old king Belshazzar in the book of Daniel, they won't need a prophet to interpret the "handwriting on the wall" -- vote now for ObamaCare and get defeated in November.

I think all of us conservative Christians should continue to pray that the decision makers in Washington make decisions that are in accordance with His Will. Many are putting money behind their prayers. It was reported this morning that Senate Candidate, Conservative Republican Scott Brown raised $1.3 million on Monday. Mr. Brown has promised to vote against Obamacare if elected.

  2. Nothing quite like buying votes

  3. The Democrats have been buying votes for years - the most blatant attempt is their recent efforts to grant amnesty to all of the illegal aliens in addition to signing them up for all of the government giveaway programs.

  6. I find the criticism of H.B. and Slim (among others) by some professing to know the will of Jesus interesting. Conservatism a false god?
It would appear that most conservatives and libertarians want to preserve liberty from government or the state and leave charity to personal moral conviction. When the government confiscates private wealth for the purpose of redistribution, even if it is the will of the majority, it violates our founding principles. And the founders were a religous people believing that the republic and the new government could never be a success unless the people were religous and moral. They wished that religous principles were to guide leaders, just that the government not deny the people their rights, including choice of faith, or none if that were ones choice.
I recently had the pleasure to meet a Catholic priest who described himself as libertarian. He did not want government coersion to bring people to the way of Christ or morality. Likewise, charity is a giving by the individual, not an act of government intervention. Interesting, would some of you have the same regard for him you have for H.B. and Slim?
